Hamamatsu

Hamamatsu is a city located in western Shizuoka Prefecture, and the largest city by population in the prefecture. During the Sengoku period, Hamamatsu Castle was the home of future Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu and flourished as a castle town. Hamamatsu has been famous as an industrial city, especially for musical instruments and motorcycles by Yamaha. Many music contests has been held in Hamamatsu and it is now a music city, not a musical instrument city. It is roughly bordered by Lake Hamana-ko to the west. As Lake Hamana-ko is a commercial source of cultivated Japanese eel, Hamamatsu is famous for foods by eel.
