Philosopher's walk Kyoto is 2-km path along a small stream starts at a temple, Ginkakuji, and ends at a shrine, Wakaoji Jinja.At dusk, it's worth making the short walk from Wakaoji Jinja to Eikando, a temple whose maples are floodlit on autumn evenings. Start at Ginkakuji, the Temple of the Silver Pavilion, with its striking raked-sand garden and turtle ponds. A recommended side trip is to Hozenji, a quiet old temple with some splendid red maples. The walk ends at Wakaoji Jinja. In fall, the shrine's trees match the glowing scarlet of its wooden buildings. At dusk, it's worth making the short walk from Wakaoji Jinja to Eikando, a temple whose maples are floodlit on autumn evenings. November is the month when Kyoto's leaves change color.
