Kokura

Kokura is located at west in Fukuoka Prefecture, and the central of Kitakyushu City which is the most northern part of Kyushu. It was the origin of the old road to various Kyushu, and developed as a castle town of Kokura Castle. Kokura Castle was built by the Hosokawa family in 1602. As tourism, Kokura Castle is of course the highlight. Monorail runs from JR Kokura Station, and the downtown areaa is along this monorail. Riverwalk shopping complex completed in 2003 are about a ten-minute walk from JR Kokura Station. The Tanga Market is a traditional open-air market where fresh fish, meat and vegetables are the main produce for sale.
