Room Rates

Are the rates per person or per room?
The rates are per room, not per person.
Does the room rate include meals?
It depends on the accommodation plan. Breakfast and/or dinner may be included at some hotels or ryokans.
Please check the information of the hotel or ryokan before making a reservation.
Is the room rate inclusive of all fees?
The room rates include all taxes and service charges.

Child rates

Are there child rates?
1. For Hotels
City or business hotels do not have child rates. You may request an extra bed, and if available the additional charges must be made to the hotel directly upon arrival. Some hotes will allow children under the age of 12 (some are under 6) to share a bed with the adult at no additional charges. Please note that although you book a breakfast included rate, if the child is sharing a bed, meals will not be included. Please confirm these details in the "inquiry/request from" upon reservation. If the child needs a bed and meals, please book the child as an adult.
2. For Ryokans (Including some resorts)
For Ryokans (Including some resorts), child rates are available from the ages 3 to 12 only, and ages above that will be considered adults.

The accommodations for children are as follows:

  1. Children ages 6 through 12 - Accommodations will include a bed or futon, and a meal equal to an adult.
  2. Children ages 3 through 5 - Accommodations will include child’s bed or futon, and a child's meal.

What are the accommodations for children under three years old (0-2 years old)?
Children under the age of three are considered infants. Accommodations such as a bed or futon will not be provided and meals are not include.
What are the costs to add a bed, futon or meals for a child under three years old (0-2 years old)?
Accommodations for children under ages of three vary per facility. Please contact us for details.
When I add accommodations or meals for a child under three years old (0-2 years old) how do I pay?
Payment of accommodations for children under ages of three must be made to the facility directly, upon arrival.

Reservations

How do I make a reservation at Japan Traveler Online?
We accept reservations for 24 hours every day.
During which hours do you accept reservations?
Japan Traveler Online offers hotels, ryokans (Japanese style accommodations), and resorts across Japan. You may select your accommodations from the search box by entering your destination or use the map search. There is also an accommodation search option by theme.
When making reservations, please make your reservation for the full duration of your stay. If you need to extend your stay after arrival, plese contact our Customer service.
How far in advance do you accept reservations?
Reservations are acceptable for 10 months in advance. But, most accommodation plans are renewed annually (in April) and not all plans will have rooms for more than 10 months in advance.
What should I do if I can’t print out the reservation form?
You can either print out the confirmation e-mail that we send you, or write down and keep the reservation number (e.g. J99-999-999) to submit upon check in.
How can I confirm my travel arrangements?
Your reservation will be confirmed online instantaneously, and you will be sent a confirmation e-mail immediately upon reservation.
You may check your reservation at “Look up Reservation” or “Cart” on our website. With the reservation number and the password.
Up to how many nights, rooms, and persons do you accept per reservation?
Up to 9 consecutive nights and 5 rooms. The maximum number of persons depends on the type of room.
May I make make more than one reservation at one time?
You may make several reservations at one time. Please add them to your cart, and you may pay for them all at once.
May I get the same rates when I make a reservation directly to the hotel or ryokan?
The rates listed on Japan Traveler Online are only available through our service.
Is the credit card payment procedure safe?
All personal data and Credit Card Information is secure. After entering the “Cart Detail “ Or “Input Reservation Number” page your information is encrypted and only Japan Travelers Online will be able to read your information. The encryption method used is the industry standard 'Secure Socket Layer' (SSL) technology. Your credit card information may not be viewed by office staff. Japan Travelers Online SSL Certificate is issued by GMO GlobalSign K.K. You can check the certificate for its validity by clicking the lock located in the status bar of your screen. SSL technology guarantees the ownership of the website, it guarantees you that your information will remain confidential and it guarantees that your information cannot be altered by third parties. Furthermore Japan Travelers Online uses CAFIS (Credit and Finance Information System) provided by NTT Data Corporation, Japan's largest financial infrastructure service provider. Besides SSL technology and CAFIS, Japan Travelers Online has a firewall which protects its server and network against unauthorized entrance by unknown persons. In the event of unauthorized access to your personal information, Japan Travelers Online will immediately notify you and take appropriate action.
What if the charge to my credit card is different than what was shown on the website?
The difference is a fee your bank has imposed on the transaction. Transaction amounts and transaction fess vary by the transacation date and fees of the credit card company you use to make your reservation.

Payment

Can I pay by credit card?
All reservations require a credit card payment, and they are processed immediately when you completed the reservation.
What do you mean by "tax"?
In addition to 8% consumption tax, there is bathing tax in case of a hot spring resort (JPY100-200) upon payment. In case of a hotel or ryokan in Tokyo and Osaka, you may have to pay accommodation tax(JPY100-300). All taxes are inlcluded in your reservation.
May I make a reservation for someone else even if I am not the one staying?
Yes, please make sure to put the name of the person staying in the reservation name. If the payment is made with a credit card in your name and not the person staying, please put your name in the "Creditcard holders full name" box.
May I use my debit card for a reservation?
We are unable to use debit cards for reservations.
How do I pay for additional expenses such as parking, phone calls, room service, etc.?
Additional expenses, or incidental charges, must paid directly to the hotel or ryokan upon checkout.

Click "Change your reservation" or "Cancel your reservation." Select which subjet, fill in the form and send it to us.

You can cancel your reservation online. Please contact us if you don't receive an e-mail confirmation of the cancellation from us.

In case of a request of change, we well e-mail you the results of yours request, or you may view the details online.

The above cancellation rates do not include miscellaneous taxes such as consumption tax and bathing tax. Please contact us for details.

Is there a charge for cancellation?
Payment of reservations are processed immediately after you completed the reservation. If the cancellation is prior to a the cancellation deadline, the full amount will be refunded to the credit card used to make your reservation. If you cancel after the cancellation deadline, the cancellation amount will be deducted from the refund to your credit card.
Please be aware that payments and refunds are in Japanese yen, and the transaction amount and transaction fess vary by the transacation date and fees of the credit card company you use to make your reservation.
What will the cancellation fee be for a reservation which includes multiple nights.
Cancellation policies vary per facility. Please view the cancellation policy of the facility at the "Hotel details" page.
If I delay may check in date, or check out on an earlier date, do I receive a refund?
Refunds will not be provided for unused nights, including those resulting from delayed check-in or early check-out.

Do you handle non-smoking rooms, room views, locations etc.?
Room views, locations, smoking preference, etc., are by request only. Please add them in the "Inquiry/Request Memo" box.
